Quote Lax Replybullet Topic: Wireless Router Randomly Losing Connection
    Posted: 19 Mar 2007 at 3:02pm

My wireless router keeps losing my ISP connection. The frequency does seem to occur in a pattern, sometimes it will go all morning and afternoon without issue, but at night it just starts disconnecting and picking the connection every few minutes, which is a pain when I'm downloading or gaming.

Here’s what I know so far.

It not related to signal strength.

It isn't a software or hardware issue with any of my PCs (all of them worked perfectly fine a few weeks ago, now none do.)

It isn't an issue with the wires (I checked them all).

I don’t know a whole lot about computers so if there’s any suggestions please try to explain them in a somewhat noob friendly response.

Thanks in advance.

Brand, model and firmware version of the router?

Wireless card make and model? Are these primarily laptops with an internal wireless card?

If the connection actually drops, then there is very likely a problem with the router.

D-link G router.

I'm not sure how to find out what firmware version it is.

The computers connected to the router are 3 powerbook G4's and my homebuilt pc desktop.

It's definitely a problem with the router, as the connection drops on all the computer mac and pc's alike.

To find the firmware version go to your internet browser an insert 192.168.0.1 (standard d-link interface address) It’s possible that your router is outdated and just cant keep up with all the connections.

A decent router will run you under 50 bucks. A replacement is probably your best solution.
